A piece of driftwood is a vulnerable drifting object travelling across landscapes, ocean currents and no longer connected to its roots. It survives, takes new form, akin to a displaced person, drifting until a new home is found. Paths of migration and displacement occurs on land and in oceans, journeys in search of new beginnings and growth, or due to war, natural disasters and climate. The inspiration for my imagery in each etching and work on paper is drawn from family memories, the natural world, and beautiful pertinent words in poetry and include silhouettes of human figures traversing atmospheric landscapes and sea corals. Each composition a visual narrative for personal contemplation.
